Pooch Pantry helps financially challenged people feed their companion animals. It is the only pet food pantry in Lake County. What started out as a small idea has grown into something grand and much needed in the community. The generosity of Lake County Animal Care and Control in letting us store the food at their facility is fantastic! Currently we are helping approximately 50-75 families a month keep their animals in their homes instead of having to give them up to shelters, rescues or worse yet, let go stray. Pooch Pantry was started in January 2009 by Cathie Sabin and B.C. Dog Training in conjuction with B.A.R.K. (Better Awareness for Rescue K-9's, Inc.). The idea came after a visit from a man who had lost his job and needed food for his two dogs. He had already been turned away by several other businesses and organizations, including local shelters with no food to spare. Then he contacted B.C. Dog Training. When he arrived there Cathie Sabin handed him a 50-pound bag of dog food. The man was so grateful he was moved to tears. That night Cathie decided to start a food pantry for pets and Pooch Pantry was born! B.A.R.K. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Monday - Friday Saturday For those unable to deliver items during these hours, donations may be placed in the overhang area in front of the Lake County Animal Control building.
